Master Chef

What an amazing day for our budding Master Chefs yesterday. Our hall and staffroom were treated to some delectable aromas and cuisine! To all of the Mkids involved you were all absolute stars! We cannot believe the kai that you served up to our judges Mrs Baker & Mrs Akroyd. First place went to Capria & Allie with a tempting tortellini treat and in second place was Meg & Quinn with a delicious dumpling dish! Big pakipaki to all of our MKids involved!

We needed to remind ourselves when we needed a new paragraph, so we used this as a reminder.

Here is Rosanna's story she came up with based on the cat in the cage.

Rear View Mirror

We used this rear view mirror to think about what we might do differently if we could have our time again. We were asked these questions:  What are some of your most memorable moments? Is there anything you’d like to change about those moments? Something to make them better? What is something you wish you would have known in those moments or If you could travel back in time to that moment, what would you tell yourself? We created our own scenes in our Writer's Notebook and here is one of our finished mirrors.

Collaborative Owls

These owls were created with a collaborative group. There were lots of decisions to be made and we had to really use our Learner Asset of being a great collaborator to complete the piece. We had to respect the ideas of others and adapt to working with different learners. We shared our amazing Owls at our Learner Led Conferences.

If I Were a Tree During the Fall Season

For this writing activity we learned how to take a selfie and crop it using the circle tool shape. We created a piece of writing about what life would be like if we were an autumn tree. When the rest of our class have completed their writing we will share it as a collaborative digital book.

Breakouts

Our Learning Neighbourhood experience Breakouts twice a term. It is a time when teachers choose something they are passionate about to teach us. It might be art, science, PE, ICT dance, drama etc. We get to sign up for whatever we like. We have learnt how to create Friendship Bracelets, make Slime, create a Sasa, create Christmas drawings. We then share what we have learnt with our friends in our Neighbourhood or with our families.
Which Breakout would you like to do?

The Pink Umbrella - Close Reading

Luca learnt to use the drawing tools in Google Drawings to dig deeper into the text. He created his own version of the tools and shared his understanding and questions he had about the text with his peers in a small group discussion.

Gym Festival

Over the last few weeks, some of our learners have been learning Gymnastic routines. The gymnasts created their own flair and individual style and then shared their routines at the Gisborne Gym Festival where many other schools compete too. We were so proud of each and every gymnast that competed. All the practices and commitment to polishing routines really showed through.
Here are a few pics of some very proud and happy faced MKids.
Congratulations to all of you.

Anzac Day Art

This is our class ANZAC Day Art.

We created these beautiful pieces of art by folding white pieces of paper portrait and
landscape. We learnt how to use a compass to draw circles all the same shape.
Next we painted a sunset with the choice of orange, red and pink but we had to use
yellow on our paintings first. After we painted all of the white on the circle and we cut
the circle out. Next we cut out a war soldier silhouette of our choice and put vivid on
the back and glued it one the paper. (Vivid side.) Finally we glued our finished pieces
on black paper and stapled them on the wall to share with the rest of our Learning
Neighbourhood.

AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN, AND IN THE MORNING
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
LEST WE FORGET

Mangapapa Creek

Some of our learners chose to investigate the creek as their Breakout this week. We learned that there is not a lot of life down there at the moment. We used some scientific equipment to help us catch and identify what we had found. Some of us created sketches of our findings, others created more wonderings. We have shared our findings with some other teachers around the school.

There wasn't a lot of room to move down there. It was very overgrown, however we did manage to find some living , and not so living things for us to study a bit closer.
